OperaOpera has updated its Android app. The update switches the rendering engine from Presto to Chromium 26, which will give it similar rendering and performance to Google Chrome.

The user interface has also been redesigned and looks similar to Chrome. The difference is in how the browser tabs are arranged and there is an option to move the browser’s menu bar to the bottom of the screen.

Opera has a Speed Dial page that combines Chrome’s frequently-visited pages with bookmarks. It looks and works like the Android home page with icons that can be dragged to rearrange and dragged on another icon to create a folder.

Swipe left to display the Discover page with top stories in a number of categories and swipe right to display browser history in a reverse-chronological list. There’s also an option to compress pages using Opera Mini servers to save bandwidth.

Using Opera on an Android device? Download the update from Google Play here.
